Independence Day - not Fear and Loathing Day
Tuesday, 01 July 2008 01:29

First off, I am not big on politics, or even much for pop culture (I don't watch a ton of tv), however lately I've been seeing more commercials, radio spots, and even newspaper articles condemming us fat lazy Americans for not doing our duty to remember the "real meaning" of some of our national holidays, the latest being Independence Day. God forbid that we throw picnics, travel to the shore, and even *gasp* have fun! These so called journalists believe we should spend the day in remorse.

When it comes to our military, both current and our fallen vets, I can honestly say that I don't think I could EVER stand in their shoes when it comes to the courage, sacrifice, blood, sweat and tears they put on the line for our freedom. I can't even begin to fathom the stories that must have come from those sacrifices, some of which would probably be too unbearable to hear. However, in this day and age, post 9/11, what better way to celebrate American freedom than to ENJOY IT?

I say: GO OUT, enjoy your freedom. Go for a walk on the beaches, hit up some arcade games, take your car out for a ride, throw some burgers on the grill, whatever, and do it all while listening to your favorite tunes.  Just remember though - these freedoms came with sacrifice. Do what you can to keep this great thing called America going. including supporting the military any way you can; both current soldiers and former veterans. Do what you can to keep the streets clean, to help those in need, and to help keep kids educated, something that's taken a back-burner to many other hot topics these days.

Anywy, I'm just some idiot enjoying his freedom by wasting valuable bandwidth on the internet; take this for what it's worth, and most importantly: Happy Independence Day!!
