Mixed weird feelings over the last few days; I ended up shutting down the electronics meetup that I hosted for nearly 2 years.
Part of it was the obvious reason; it’s not really feasible to run an in-person meetup when you can’t meet in person, but with 200+ members in the meetup group, we still struggled to get more than 5 attendees at any real meets.
When I announced I was shutting it down, a small handful of people did reach out and express that they wish they participated more, but thats life now too: too many options (well, “was”). With soo many meetups, so many events, and with social media and the internet, so many of them are discoverable, theres literally an endless supply of activity to keep just about anyone busy.
It’ll be interesting to see how things work out over the coming months and years; hopefully some things will go back to normal, but also I think things will get macro again too, perhaps the small towns and communities will thrive again.
I will find the next thing; I’m still planning to volunteer and do what I can, it may just be a little different now. I don’t regret trying to host the meetup, in fact I’m glad I did and still got the chance to meet some cool people and help some people out.
Now more than ever, life’s too short! If you have a passion for something, or some idea to try, DO IT!
Carpe Diem!
